The Real London Tube Map

Posted in findings, london, software by christoph on the March 5th, 2006

Have you ever wondered, what the real London Tube Map would look like? Usually, you get this very popular and aesthetically highly sophisticated abstract map of the London Underground. However, this never really gave an overview of how far apart the actual tube stations really are. Check out this fantastic London Tube Map built on the Google Maps API – you can also use it as a journey planner.

[...] This mash up is really well done. The lines are all drop-shadowed, it’s easy to read and use, and it shows where things are really well. Someone should really do a REAL one of these (ie, on paper). Or on the iPhone. Ups to emcon for the original article. [...]

This is really cool idea! I have recently noticed that the maps we are using for London online are not full. Some have tube lines some have streets, some london zones, some london boroughs but non of them have it all in one, i can imagine it as some interaptive (maybe flash) map. The example above is very good step forward!

Red Berries are found east of the Varrock Stone Circle in Runescape quest helper. You can pick Onions from the garden just north of Rimmington, and Woad Leaves can be bought from Wyson the Gardener in Falador for just 20gp for a set of 2. Once you’ve gotten the 3 dyes, go back to the Goblin Village and start killing Goblins to get a Goblin Mail.

    This has explained everything!

When I look at the traditional tube map it means nothing to me because it has no real context if you dont happen to know London too well.

This puts everything in context and makes the distance understandable.

Thanks.. I’ll be using this from now on!

Needed to send you one little bit of remark in order to thank you so much again for those amazing methods you’ve contributed in this article. It was really open-handed of people like you to make extensively precisely what some people might have made available as an electronic book to make some bucks on their own, most notably now that you could possibly have done it if you ever wanted. Those ideas as well worked to become a great way to be certain that many people have a similar eagerness just like my very own to realize whole lot more concerning this condition. I think there are a lot more fun moments in the future for people who view your blog post.

I really appreciate this. I’ll be visiting this summer from Los Angeles and a geographically-accurate map is amazing to have! Now if only I had a map showing tube stations in each borough, I’d be set.

Hi there! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when viewing from my iphone4. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this issue. If you have any suggestions, please share. Cheers!
